TSX climbs heading into weekend

The S&P/TSX Composite was up 63.97 points or 0.49% to 12989.34 on Friday.

Labopharm Inc. shares were up more than 18% after the company said its late-stage clinical trial for once-daily antidepressant trazodone met its primary endpoint and improved sleep patterns in patients.

Inmet Mining Ltd. shares were down more than 5% after it announced with partners Petaquilla Copper Ltd and Teck Cominco Ltd that capital costs for the Petaquilla copper project in Panama have increased substantially over previously published estimates.

Moto Goldmines Ltd. shares were up 6% after the company reported a 47% increase in indicated mineral resources at the Moto Gold Project in Congo.

In the U.S., the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 64.87 points or 0.53% to 12182.13. The S&P 500 fell 5.62 points or 0.42% to 1331.29 and the Nasdaq jumped 11.82 points or 0.52% to 2304.85.
